Understanding Tire Retreading

Retreading
is basically adding a new tread to an already bald tire. Retreading is highly recommended for commercial vehicles such as trucks or buses to save on vehicle owner expenses.

As is known, the price of truck or bus tires can be 4 times more expensive than ordinary car tires.
Basically, any company engaged in retreading can retread as long as several conditions are met.

The first and most important thing is the condition of the tire casing which must be good.

The perception of many people is wrong, from 100 percent of the funds to buy tires, about 80 percent is for the production costs of the casing, while 20-30 percent of the tread. That means mostly for the casing. As long as the casing is wearable and in really good condition, the tires can be retreaded.

The casing is the layer of thread that forms the tire and is the frame of the tire that holds high pressure air to support the tire.

Tire Difference

Overseas retreading techniques have also been recommended.

Many planes fly, the tires can be retreaded 6 times. For tires and buses, a maximum of 4 times retread. What was developed is the recommendation for trucks and buses that are off the road.

You also need to remember, tires are recommended for retreading only specifically for the rear tires. It is advisable not to retread the front tire or the steering wheel for safety reasons.

But it depends on the regulations of each country. There are countries, for example, for school buses, there are no tires on the steering wheel but for the rear tires.

So that the tires can be retread, some tips are suggested to keep the tire casing in good condition.

  1.     First, keep the tire pressure as recommended,
  2.     Both ways of driving don't be reckless and still keep the speed from over-speeding,
  3.    Third, before the tires run out by looking at tread wear, immediately replace the treads, aka retread them.

The recommendation is before removing 3 millimeters (wear and tear) to be retreaded, don't really bald the tires, because if they are bare it will damage the structure in the casing.
